Wanna Do Whip Itzzz n' Roller Derby!!

This weekend I saw the movie Whip It (directed by Drew Barrymore) and I give it a good ol' fashioned thumbs up. Roller Derby is the main focus, but I fully enjoyed the story and I recommend this goody gum drop for sure.

I think the story speaks to young, alternative girls who never felt they fit in with the normal crowd (yours truely included). [As a kid I played a mean defense on the girls soccer team, built tree forts with my cousins (all boys), always had cuts on my knees, and liked to play punching games that left my arms and legs bruised for weeks. Is that considered a tom boy? anywayssss...]

Even though I skate pretty well, I think I'm too accident prone to actually participate in roller derby. I stick to cheering from the sidelines at the Gotham Girls bouts and supporting movies like Whip It instead!

The Plot: In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin. Staring Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page, Marcia Harden, Jimmy Fallon, Eve, Juliette Lewis, Landon Pigg, and Har Mar Superstar.

Punk Rock saves my soul...

I'm a big fan of all types of music, but punk rock has always hit a strong chord in my body that I can't run away from. Someone once asked me "you are a pretty calm person right?" and I responded "well ya I guess, but there's gotta be a reason why I'm so drawn to punk music....".

Ya, I've calmed down a lot since my high school days, but I still enjoy a good mosh pit of happy, dancing people and some good screaming at the top of my lungs.

I recently met Roberto Rose who is working on a documentary about Latin punk music called Punk Out Law. He's traveling to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay next. Check out his project here http://punkoutlaw.com The site is dedicated to Punk music and it’s family the offspring and cousins (Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Punkabilly, Ska, etc., etc.).

Today, I'd like to share w/ you some Latin punk bands I like. In addition, for those of you who need their punk fix feel free to download my "Rock n' Punk en mi Boca" mix.
