Fri, Feb 26 PAPERMAG "Promoter of the Year" party for Shaw Promotion!

I've been working with Shaw Promotion since 2005 helping promote some of the best underground parties and rad lifestyle products like Ben Sherman, Converse, Doc Martens, T-Mobile, Penguin, tons of great indie films and bands, blah blah. I HEART Shaw Promotion...

A message from Andy Shaw from Shaw Promotion:
"This week is going to be so much fun because this will be the first "SHAW PRESENTS" party in 3 years on Friday. DJ Jess is a long time friend and Trash! was the first party we ever worked on so it just seemed appropriate. We will have a 2 hour Svedka open bar + a Svedka photobooth and put on a button instantly. We will also have fun giveaways from PAPER, Kill Shop Kill, Ben Sherman and some limited edition Shaw Promotion goodies.

Actually, everything we make is limited edition, so if you got any Shaw Promotion goods keep them (especially those rare SHAW panties we gave out at the night of awards!). In addition to all this shananigans, we will have all the usual greatness that comes with the Trash! party along with my homeslice Nicky Digital, who is also a Paper Mag Nightlife award winner two years straight, taking photos. This is going to be a great celebration of the NYC nightlife family and ME for being the BEST in this crazy business (according to PaperMag at least, ha).

I'd like to give a huge shout out to PAPER, SVEDKA, DJ Jess, Aaron of Kill Shop Kill, Dana of Ben Sherman, and all my staff and loyal street team for making this happen. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!! Now.. for the rest of you, GO TO MY PARTY!!!! Thank you!!"

But wait there's more fun Thurs! Los Vigilantes live @ Don Pedro's...

That's right chavitos!! Hopefully ya'll get into the Davila 666/Dirt Bombs show @ Knitting Factory...BUT looks like RSVP is closed so good luck!

After the Knitting Factory show there's an awesome after party @ Don Pedro's in Greenpoint w/ a live performance by Los Vigilantes (Davila's buddies from Puerto Rico!). Girls at Dawn and The Beets will also be playing, but I'm not familiar w/ them yet, but I bet they rock.

Oh yea! This Thurs night should be a big sweaty mess of rock n' roll!!! I hope you can join me in the fun...

Los Vigilantes are currently tearing up our island territory with the
likes of Davilla 666, and schooling would-be hip chicos and chicas with hard lessons in primitive present-tense and historic garage punk madness! Historic? Yeah! "Mi Mami Dijo" is a cover from '66 Mexicano punk-o combo Los Monjes (literally- THE MONKS), the south of the border rock'n'roll deities who even wore monk robes, similar to their U.S./ German counterparts! WTF? Where are these guys finding this stuff? Side two of this 7" tortilla give us a great early 60's doo-wop punk stomper, heavy on the dumb, and more fun than a piñata filled with peyote!

Listen to some of their tracks on myspace

DAVILA 666 official after party + LOS VIGILANTES live

Don Pedros 90 Manhattan Avenue (btwn Boerum & McKibben) 8pm - 3am - Facebook event

FREE SHOW! Dirt Bombs & Davila 666 this Thurs in NYC!

Davila 666 are my #1 favorite garage rock n' rollers from Puerto Rico...I love them like a hardcore skinhead loves a good punch in the face! They have great songs, they have awesome live shows, and these boys are just all around nice boys w/ a heart for rock n' roll. They will be performing at the SCION GARAGE SHOW @ the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on Thurs, Feb 25th (with the DIRTBOMBS). Make sure to RSVP for free entry!

Describing themselves as like "Menudo on drugs," San Juan, Puerto Rico's Davila 666 combine Stooges-like garage rock fire with the occasional sugary pop melody. The seven -- not six, surprisingly -- Davilas include singer/tambourine player Sir Charles, multi-instrumentalist AJ, guitarists/vocalists Miss Davila and Johnny Otis, drummer/guitarist/vocalist San Pablo, percussionist/vocalist Panda, and guitarist/drummer/vocalist Gigi.

Their theatrical live show -- which includes themes, props, costumes, and dancers -- won them fans in the States when they toured with the Black Lips and the King Khan & BBQ Show. Davila 666's self-titled U.S. debut was released in summer 2008 via In the Red Records. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide (Content provided by All Music Guide Copyright © 2008 All Media Guide, LLC)

The Runaways movie coming soon!

I am totally looking forward to this movie. I hope it doesn't suck...

"The story of the groundbreaking '70s female rock group the Runaways is recounted in this River Road Entertainment production focusing on the duo of guitarist/vocalist Joan Jett (portrayed by Twilight's Kristen Stewart) and lead vocalist/keyboardist Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) as they navigate a rocky road of touring and record label woes under the malevolent eye of abusive manager Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon) during their teen years. Acclaimed video artist Floria Sigismondi directs from her own script, with Scout Taylor-Compton co-starring as guitarist Lita Ford." ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

www.runawaysmovie.com

The movie focuses on the band's formation, and their meteoric rise to fame. Their first single, 'Cherry Bomb', gets some attention in the United States, where THE RUNAWAYS' U.S. tour hits major venues (Cobo Hall, with RUSH) and sleazy rock-clubs, often pairing them up with The Ramones, Cheap Trick, Tom Petty, and other popular 1970's rock acts. But 'Cherry Bomb' and several other songs from THE RUNAWAYS' first 2 albums become huge hits in Japan -- and their arrival for a set of shows there in 1977 is like Beatle-Mania. The band is overwhelmed by the Japanese reception. Almost prophetic, THE RUNAWAYS' last big hit song in Japan is 'Neon Angels On The Road To Ruin'. read more here
